Nights at the “Chelsea Lately” Round Table

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Chelsea LatelyHear Ye! Hear Ye! If you gather ’round the television at 11:00 p.m. on weeknights to watch E! you might want to check the floor to see if your ass has fallen off; because there is more than a distinct likelihood that you have laughed it off viewing “Chelsea Lately.”

Celebrities end up shredded, diced and pureed by the dish served up by the likes of Round Table regulars Heather McDonald, Loni Love and Guy Branum.

TV viewers are as familiar with the faces of these comedic people as they are with “smartcastic” host, Chelsea Handler, who holds court over these jesters.

Fear not loyal subjects, I got it all out on the table (so to speak) regarding behind-the-scenes doings, on-air embarrassing moments, and which celebrity needs a career makeover.

PULLQUOTE: “I think the beauty of the album is the bridge between the end of that experience and the beginning of the Obama administration… I think people are just coming back and awakening from their slumbers.”

Sandra BernhardFunny girl, actress, author and singer, Sandra Bernhard is a veritable chameleon of talent. Her latest endeavor is a new recording of rock and world music called Whatever It Takes released on August 25. The music was produced and co-written by Ted Mason, former Modern English member. Remember their hit 1980s song called “I Melt With You?” These two artists along with numerous guest vocalists such as Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders and noted Rwandan cultural ambassador and singer Jean Paul Samputu have crafted a thoughtful and musically entertaining new work. Whatever It Takes takes the listener on a journey from New York to Africa, the Middle East and South America with a rich tapestry of world music paired with the American sounds of rock n’ roll.

The Rage Monthly spent a bit of time on the phone with Sandra Bernhard to talk about the songs, why she was motivated to create such a diverse recording and how it all came together. Not many people are aware that Bernhard is a classically trained vocalist. Her voice is pure and maidenly, as well as robust on Whatever It Takes. (more…)

Interview by bill biss

Pet Shop BoysTheir sound is unmistakable in the world and history of pop music. Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe have a formidable 25-year career and still create magical vibes with their music and lyrics. Both men were recently the recipients of the Outstanding Achievement in Music Award at the Brit Awards. They also broke a Billboard record in August as their first single “Love Etc.” off of their newest work called Yes hit number one. This sets a new record for most number one singles on Billboard Magazine’s Dance/Club chart. It’s an impressive total of nine songs that have reached that height in Pet Shop Boy’s career. As the dynamic duo embarked on a North American tour on August 29, The Rage Monthly had the great honor to speak with Neil Tennant about the drive and vision of The Pet Shop Boys, what’s in store for those who catch them at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on September 24 and capture a few thoughts and memories of their remarkable career as music and gay icons. Lady GaGa

Lady GaGa

It’s All About The Fame or Is It?

Interview by Bill Biss
Refreshingly candid and remarkably talented as a songwriter/musician and singer, Lady GaGa was in Paris promoting her debut called The Fame and also performing there. If you haven’t heard her song, “Let’s Dance” it’s quite possible that you don’t own a radio, computer or television. Her debut album drops here in the U.S. on October 28 and when talking with this sensational new singer… it’s quite evident that there is just no stopping Lady GaGa. She is a force of nature and is simply the real deal when it comes to her skills as a songwriter and entertainer. (more…)
