OUT WITH DOROTHY AND THE GANG! It’s LGBT Night at San Diego Symphony

[ 0 ] April 5, 2017 |

Join the San Diego Symphony on Saturday, April 15 for an evening of live music, dancing, cocktails and a fun pre-concert costume contest, featuring the beloved 1939 American musical,   produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.  Based on L. Frank Baum’s 1900 era novel, the film won the Academy Award for Best Original Score for MGM composer Herbert Stothart, along with the Academy Award for Best Original Song “Over the Rainbow” for composer by Harold Arlen and lyracist Yip Harburg.  Listen to all the beloved music and songs such as, “We’re Off To See The Wizard,” “Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead,” “If I Only Had a Brain,” “If I Were King of the Forest” and a host of other classic tunes from the Technicolor masterpiece.

Come dressed as your favorite Wizard of Oz character for the pre-concert Costume Contest and Cocktail Hour, and enter for your chance to win a 4-pack of tickets to the Symphony’s Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets at Bayside Summer Nights at Downtown’s beautiful Embarcadero Park! The contest is open to all ages, sign-up begins at 6:30 p.m. in the outer lobby and the contest begins at 7:15 p.m. in the lower lobby.

Crafty cocktails will also be on hand in pre-show in the Copley Symphony Hall Lobby, offered up by Snake Oil Cocktail Company (in our lobbies before the show): The Emerald City — Vodka, smashed cucumber, muddled basil, fresh lime, agave nectar and The Ruby Slipper — Bourbon, strawberry jam, rosemary reduction, pressed lemon

Come for a wicked evening of shy lilliputians, one happy witch, one angry and one dead and shoeless, flying monkeys, a singing quartet made up of a brainless scarecrow, a heartless tin man, a scaredy-cat lion and one freckle-faced Kansan, a wonderful wizard who might not be all he’s cracked up to be, and they’re all bound together by one giant tornado and a crash landing house…. and of course the brilliance of The San Diego Symphony, live!
