Mark your calendars boys and girls and step right up to the greatest show in North County! The second annual “We Are Family” gala to benefit the North County LGBTQ Resource Center is taking place on Saturday, May 19 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Oceanside Museum of Art, 704 Pier View Way in Oceanside.

This their second annual gala has special significance because as Executive Director Max Disposti says, “There is a big change because last year we were still dreaming of opening the center. This year we have an actual address, largely due to the success of last year’s event—which raised enough to start opening the Center.”

He continues, “North County is a large county and the need for services was long overdue, the day we opened the doors we realized this. There is a great need for care with our youth and individuals who have been through so much, as well as their parents and families. We provide that with support groups, HIV health services, mental health services and all of it is free.”

The gala represents all of this, but it is not just a fundraiser, it’s also about awareness and getting the word out. Disposti shares that, “Fundraising is important, because right now we are one of the only LGBT Centers in the U.S. that is run without grant money—we don’t necessarily want to keep it that way! But with the Gala, we hope to accomplish the ability to continue services, growing our awareness in the community and also to raise enough funds to keep doing what we are doing for the next year!”

The gala is at the fantastic Oceanside Museum of Art, a beautiful venue with large, open indoor and outdoor spaces. Inside there will be presentations and a silent auction and the outside area will be set up for people to mingle, dance, eat and drink the night away. The theme is “We Are Family” and the event is meant to be a chance for people to get to know and support their North County “family.”

John Duvan, Mayor of West Hollywood, will be the main speaker for the evening. Disposti fills us in, “He is a long-time supporter and fundraiser for the gay community, who has worked hard to promote anti-discrimination legislation for those infected with HIV—someone who has been on the front lines for a long time.”

All in all a great event with wonderful entertainment, speakers and much, much more; for tickets and more information call 760.672.1848 or E-mail
